What is Restorative yoga?

Restorative yoga poses can be called "active relaxation." By supporting the body with props, and resting in the poses, we both stimulate and relax the body to move into balance. Some poses have an overall benefit. Others target an individual part, such as the lungs or heart. All create specific physiological responses, which are beneficial to health and can reduce the effects of stress. The calmness of the practice helps to enhance the immune system.

Restorative yoga helps you understand the effects of poses more thoroughly, so the restorative practice enhances your general knowledge of yoga, which supports you when you do your more vigorous yoga practice.

Restorative yoga can also be used for those times when you feel fatigued or stressed from your daily activities. They are important to learn, as they are beneficial when recovering from illness, injury or emotional distress.
